Creative Cairngorms

Where to see our members’ work this month

Posted on

Work by two of our members – Rona Smith and tutor Angus Grant – features in the latest exhibition by the Creative Cairngorms group.

All you need to do it take a wee trip to Findhorn to the Moray Art Centre before the end of the month. It’s well worth a visit – with paintings, screenprints, photography, jewellery, etc, there’s a tremendous breadth of work to look at. And it’s fantastic gallery in a lovely wee village!

Art exhibitions for winter

Posted on

Lots more events going on around the region that arty people might be interested in as we head towards the end of the year.

The Creative Cairngorms collective is exhibiting at the Iona Gallery in Kingussie for most of November. There’s a host of craft and art on offer – jewellery, ceramics and photography and many more.

Opening hours can be found on the gallery website: http://www.theionagallery.co.uk/

At Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, there’s a new exhibition starting on November 12. Scottish artist Graham Fagan has reinterpreted the body of work made for the Scotland + Venice exhibition last year. The original exhibition was made for the Palazzo Fontana on the Grand Canal in Venice.

If you fancy going further afield, there’s the Kilmorack Gallery, just outside Beauly. Their winter exhibition starts on Saturday November 19. A host of artists will be showing new works.

On our holidays!

We’re away on our summer break – hoping for sunny weather so we can get out and about and find inspiration for new paintings.

But we’ll keep checking in with news of exhibitions, just in case you have a spare moment (or it’s raining).

To kick us off is the Creative Cairngorms exhibition at Abernethy Old Kirk, Nethy Bridge. On show will be paintings, photographs, ceramics and jewellery.

Open until August 14, from 12noon until 5pm, everyday apart from Tuesday and Thursdays.

Grantown Museum is back – with a new look

Posted on Updated on

The revamped Grantown Museum opens on Monday – and it’s been worth the wait.

A sneak preview on Friday night revealed that the galleries have been completely revamped, with new exhibits and interactive displays.

The room where we hold our exhibition has also changed. The wooden pulpit and most of the glass cases have been removed, creating a wide open space. And the team has brought in new moveable walls for hanging paintings on. These will come in very handy next month.

Please go and have a look. For those of you savvy with social media, there’s also a new Facebook page to help you show support for the museum in their new guise.

While I’m on, there’s also a Creative Cairngorms exhibition at the Iona Gallery in Kingussie. It’s their first show of the season and runs until March 28. The gallery is open Monday -Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 12-4pm.
